For Jackson’s new deputy dean, connections are key

Earlier this fall, political scientist Jennifer Gandhi took on a new role within the Jackson School as its deputy dean. In her role thus far, Gandhi has been focused on building the school’s curriculum, strengthening admissions efforts, and keeping track of faculty searches.

Laura Robson is a scholar of international and Middle Eastern history, with a special interest in issues of refugeedom, forced migration, and statelessness. In her research and teaching, Robson uses a historical approach to provide context for the critical issues within the region — and the impacts felt across the world — today.

At a crossroads: Alden Young on the links between Africa and the Arab world

Alden Young, an expert on Sudan and the Horn of Africa, recently joined the Jackson School as an associate professor of history and global affairs. His research explores the inextricable connections between Africa and the Middle East, from religion to migration to economic development.

Before coming to @yale as an Eli Whitney scholar, Jimmy served over 20 years in U.S. Special Operations Forces. Spring 2025 he taught GLBL 339: The Impact of War on Its (Willing and Unwilling) Participants — a #YaleJackson seminar on war’s human cost.

The Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs celebrated the master`s graduates of the Class of 2025 today under sunny skies at Horchow Hall. The school awarded 34 Master in Public Policy (MPP) degrees and six Master of Advanced Study (MAS) degrees. 🎓🎉

Class speaker Mushfequr Rahman MPP `25 said that as his classmates move forward, they may define themselves as policy professionals, scholars, strategists, or diplomats — but the truth is that their “definitions will keep evolving.”

“They’ll stretch with the choices we make, the places we go, and the people we carry with us. That’s what makes this moment so special — not that we’ve figured everything out, but that we’re ready to keep going. Together, apart, in ways both big and quiet.”
